From April 12, 2025, the “Of horses and men” exhibition at the Great War Museum will explore the fate of equines in the conflict, and their relationship with man that goes beyond strict military use. This exhibition shows the brotherhood in horror between men and beasts condemned to live together, facing the same destiny.
For this new temporary exhibition, the Great War Museum tackles the subject of the fate of horses in the conflict, their use in the various arms of the armies, the men who employed and used them, and the human-animal relationships that went beyond strict military use.
Drawing on the rich collections of uniforms, archives (photographs and documents), works of art (paintings, prints and sculptures) and equipment on display at the Great War Museum, the exhibition illustrates the fraternity in horror between men and beasts condemned to live together, facing the same fate.
The exhibition is enhanced by prestigious loans, including objects and works from the Imperial War Museum (UK), the Verdun Memorial, the Musée Fragonard in Maisons-Alfort and the Fort de Seclin in northern France.
